Twisting and turning around the mountain bends, I decided to close my eyes when the sides of the road dropped hundreds...no thousands of feet. It didn't seem to bother my husband, but he was on the driving side and couldn't see what I was seeing.  Finally, we reached the top of the mountain. THANK GOODNESS!!

Nevertheless, it is worth the breath-holding and the odd feeling in the pit of the stomach. Especially in the Fall, the Blue Ridge Mountains come alive with yellows, reds and deep golds.  It stretches for miles and miles!

One not only sees God's glory, but makes us wonder how the people, who first came to settle these hills and rough places, could possibly exist in these mountains.  They traveled by foot or with horses and wagons, carrying only what they needed to survive. It is certain, as we read their history, that they brought with them, from their former countries, the music and traditions that they cherished.  Many died along the way. We must not forget them. Nor should we forget the Native Americans, who  had been in this area of our country for centuries. Sadly, they were ultimately moved to places out West, far from the beauty of their Blue Ridge homeland.

Today, we ride on easy roads; stop at the over-looks and are amazed at the beauty God gave to all to enjoy! Most of the time it is easy...yes, very easy...until it is not!  At times the fog rolls in and you may hope that you're not on the Parkway when it does.

One day, we were driving and fog came creeping over the ridge, like a cool blanket ready to tuck us in....or down one of those cliffs!  This is when we began to creep along, hoping that we could see or be seen by other vehicles. Suddenly, we saw two cyclists just in front of us...within feet. They looked concerned as well. We moved slowly by them.  Yes, it can be dangerous, but often the fog will lift and move across to another part of the mountain.

Sunrise and sunset is a fantastic sight.  The sun brings out the colors all around and we thank God again for His creations.  Most of the time, there is a silence...a peaceful silence...a very peaceful silence.

Here are a few pictures of the FALL IN THE MOUNTAINS.

Making our way along the Blue Ridge Parkway...no fog this day.... we found the Blue Ridge Music Center.  We highly recommend going there whenever you are traveling through Carolina and Virginia.  In these hills, instrumental music and the old way of life, is being taught to the young people, which is extremely important to preserve the history of this part in the United States of America.  So much to thank God for, as we go toward THANKSGIVING.

ENJOY THEIR VIDEO and turn up your sound as some voices are quiet.
