To answer the above question, one must look deep into the soul. It's the place that no one knows, but you. Sometimes the mountain that one has to climb is loss, pain, indecision and many other problematic situations. It is often hard to talk with anyone about "your mountain." It is also hard to know who to trust with such private matters. Yet, life has to go on. Each new day is one to consider how to make the climb. Each hour may mean trying to tuck away the thoughts that often rise to the surface.
When I was a teacher in Florida, I was shocked to hear that a dear woman that I knew had been out shopping with her two little girls. She was forced into a car and driven to an orange grove, where the man assaulted her in front of the girls and murdered the children. Amazingly, the mother survived.
As the day of the funeral drew near, I remember going to the small, African American church and looking at the little girls lying in their coffins, dressed in beautiful white dresses. How could this woman ever go on after such a terrible tragedy? Only God knew, for He also saw his only Son cruelly beaten and crucified on a cross.
Even this many years later, I still think of this woman and what I know she did to climb this mountain. After healing her body, she began to reach out to people. Not only did she share her faith in God and how He met her as she climbed. Just as He wrapped his arms of love around her spirit and her fragile life, she wrapped her arms around people who also were climbing a mountain. She reminded them that God will heal the broken heart that is broken in half and restore the soul. His healing is so deep that no one else can see. Sometimes it takes time, but she never gave up. You must NEVER give up, whether your hurt is a high hill or a giant mountain. You will get to the top!
The Holy Scriptures tell us over and over that God will climb the mountains with us and heal the broken hearted.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Jesus said, "He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and to bring sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free and to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor...to heal the broken hearted." Luke 4:18
The video below was made some years ago when the movie, Sound of Music, was popular. The words say, "...until you find your dream." The dream of all people is to live life that brings happiness. To find the dream of peace. True peace will only come through the giving of the Holy Spirit through God's Son, Jesus Christ. Pray for this peace as you reach the top of the mountain you are climbing. God will give it to you.
